VELOCITY - Retro Electro

Hey, so I’m finally putting out my first CD—yeah, I know, it’s about time. Seriously, though, I’ve wanted to do this for ages. Honestly, growing up in the 70s and 80s was just a vibe. You’d flick on the radio and legends would pretty much punch you in the ears—in a good way! It was raw, it was real, nice melodies, none of that monotone stuff.
But now? Man, you turn on the radio and it’s kinda like wandering into a musical gray zone. I can’t be the only one who feels like something’s missing, right? Where’d all the magic scamper off to? Many are still around, but they don't get played on the radio anymore.
So here’s the scoop: I’m just making music I actually wanna hear. If you’re tired of the usual Playboi Carti and OPIUM label stuff, or another cookie-cutter house track, auto-tuned with the Cher effect, maybe you’ll get a kick out of it too. Let’s see if we can spark a little old-school spirit back into the mix.

I made this CD for me and people my age — the ones who still remember how to fix a cassette with a pencil — and for the younger crowd who’ve figured out that 80s synth-pop will always be cooler than whatever TikTok is serving up this week.

I’m 63, which means I’ve lived long enough to know three things: synth-pop never really died, hairspray is basically rocket fuel, and you don’t need a record deal to make music.

For years, I played the French horn (yes, the one shaped like a brass pretzel) and messed around on bass guitar. Not exactly rock star credentials, but hey — with today’s tools, even a guy like me can put together an album.

Look, I’m not out here pretending to be a professional musician, but I came up with the melodies, wrote all lyrics*, and mixed the songs, inspired by German synth-pop and NDW bands like The Twins, Alphaville and Hubert Kah, until they sounded the way I wanted — retro enough to feel like 1983, but polished enough to keep your Bluetooth speakers happy.

This project proves you’re never too old to make some noise. If you’ve got the passion, you can do it too. I had a blast making this, and I hope it brings you right back to the days of neon lights, big shoulders, and even bigger synths.

Enjoy
